preventing burnout in 2021

Burnout is usually associated with people who are always on the go, yet as we find ourselves in another lockdown in the UK, the stress, worry and uncertainty, coupled with the lack of routine, leaves us all at risk of experiencing burnout. If 2020 taught us one thing: it’s more important than ever to make sure we strike the balance between work and rest, and remove the overwhelming pressure to be productive from our daily lives if we want to avoid burnout.

Setting aside some time every day to do something for yourself that distracts your mind from daily tasks and stresses is of course really important for preventing burnout; whether it’s spending an extra five minutes on your skincare routine to do a face mask, going for a twenty minute walk, or half an hour spent reading a book.

But what if you’re just not feeling up to doing anything at all? This is probably a sign that you’re already experiencing burnout. Solitude is a great way to help reconnect with ourselves, especially if you live or work around other people all day, every day. Remember that unproductive time is completely fine, if anything, it’s needed - especially right now. Just try to keep screen time to a minimum, because we all know that that sort of unproductive time often makes us feel even more burned out.

On those days where you feel like doing nothing due to burnout, it’s so important to listen to your body and rest. This is where aromatherapy comes in. Using essential oils, like our burnout roll-on therapist, can enhance mindfulness and breathing exercises, and aid sleep; all of which will help combat burnout.
