making scents of the science

Smell is your brains instant pick-me-up. Here's the science of what happens from bottle, to nose, to brain.

Slide image

BOTTLE

The process begins in the nose. As you inhale, the scent molecules enter up through the nose.

Slide image

NOSE

These molecules are detected by our nose neurons and turned into signals by our brain.

Slide image

BRAIN

These signals are then sent to our limbic system, the part of our brain in charge of emotions.

BODY

The limbic system then translates these messages and sends messages to our body saying 'feel calmer' or 'feel energised'.
